Good day, earth beings!
Are you ready for a Human Design series?

Human Design is a tool used to understand yourself more deeply.

Take your birth information smush it up with a bit of astrology, I Ching, Kabbalah, and chakra knowledge to create your unique Human Design chart. Your chart is a wealth of information regarding your personality, psychology, preferences, composition, and way of being.

Human Design can help you navigate the world more effectively.

To be clear, I am not a Human Design expert, nor have I been formally trained. I also don’t take the information as fact. I value taking what works and leaving what doesn’t in every situation. Still, I like Human Design, research it regularly and found my reading helpful and enlightening.

I also enjoy exposing friends and family to the work. I’ve done a ton of research on my own and casually read charts when the occasion arises. I’ve even shown clients their charts during sessions. The material is rich and can often allow people to see themselves with a new perspective.

Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Krakower) founded Human Design. In 1987 Krakower channeled the information on Ibiza, where he worked as a school teacher. He later changed his name and continued to develop Human Design into what it is today.

While the origin story might be questionable to some, I’d recommend giving your chart a look before discounting it. I’ve introduced upwards of 50 people to their design and have yet to meet someone who wasn’t intrigued.

According to Human Design, there are four types: Generator (including Manifesting Generator), Manifestor, Projector, and Reflector. Our type gives us guidance on interacting with the world around us. This post is the first of a series. We will do a deep dive into each type in the coming weeks.

One of my favorite aspects of Human Design is center (similar to chakra) definition and openness. On a Human Design chart, there are nine centers. Each center will be either defined (colored in on the chart) or open (white on the chart).

An approachable introduction by Katie.

When your center is defined, this area is a fixed and reliable place to find yourself. Do you have a defined ‘G’ Center? If so, you will find stability in your own identity, love, and direction. We can be convinced this isn’t true, though – more on that later.

When your center is open, this is a receptive place susceptible to both conditioning and wisdom. Is your ‘G’ Center open? Openness in the ‘G’ Center means family, school, or society likely condition(ed) you regarding identity, love, and direction. If you decondition from those teachings, you have the capacity for fluidity and wisdom in these areas.

In the United States, we overwhelmingly believe that identity, love, and direction are some of the most worthy and valuable pursuits. It’s possible the people who instilled these values simply had fixed ‘G’ Centers and weren’t considering those who were open in that center.

Each of the centers has different meanings and characteristics. You might find traits you’ve solidly identified with are actually flexible qualities. Perhaps you’ll learn an attribute you admire in another is one you can lean into yourself. As humans, we tend to mix ourselves up – we have thoughts and assumptions about ourselves that are wholly untrue.

Under all our misconceptions is our true nature.

Human Design is one way to explore and uncover that nature – a means to be with our authentic self.

Human Design has been a helpful tool for exploring myself in a new way. My first interaction shocked me. I was certain my head would be a defined area – I used to think in black and white. It took months to settle into the idea that my head was not a place for me to find stability and certainty.

Over time this has come to make perfect sense – I desperately tried to have the ‘right’ answers (and for good reasons). Now, I find comfort knowing I do not know. A truth validated, right there in my chart. What a relief!

There are many folks out there providing fantastic resources to learn on your own. One of my favorite places to explore is Interior Creature. This page is a great place to start, and this one for when you’re looking for specifics.

Stay curious,
