Hello coach seekers,
I’m glad you’re here.
Finding a coach can be an overwhelming endeavor. I understand and have been there too. I’m here with insight to make the process a little easier and hopefully more enjoyable.
You might have noticed the growing number of coaches out there. It’s hard to miss us! So how do you find a coach? It can take time and effort. Even so, I trust it is possible.
Many of us want extra support and helpful guidance but are lost on where to find it. I believe being lost is a perfect place to start getting curious.
Let’s begin the journey to find your perfect coach.
How to Find Your Perfect Coach
1. Talk to people
You’ll find the best coaches and healers through the grapevine. When we open up to people in our lives about what we are seeking, we learn what they’ve tried, what has worked for them, and what to avoid. Folks usually recommend practitioners they’ve worked with personally and trust. This kind of intel narrows down the field significantly. If you aren’t comfortable sharing details about yourself with family, friends, or coworkers, try finding supportive communities and recommendations on Reddit or Quora.
2. Look for coaches who offer a free consultation or session
Connecting before committing is one way to decide if a coach is right for you or not. Prepare some questions beforehand. Ask about their experience, what types of people do they typically work with, or what you can expect from them. No question is off-limits. Show up authentically and utilize the time to your advantage. A good coach will be deciding if you are the right fit for them too.
3. Find a coach who believes in their work, but doesn’t believe their work is the only way
There are tons of modalities out there and so many of them actually work! Oftentimes coaches seek training in the one that worked best for them which doesn’t necessarily mean it will work best for you. We are all complex creatures with unique needs. Find a coach who knows this truth and is dedicated to your well-being whether that’s coaching you or finding you a practitioner who suits you better.
Additionally, it’s important to consider what type of coach you’re seeking. Coaches aren’t required to hold licenses so it’s likely when you find your perfect coach they will reference a hodgepodge of certifications or offerings. Look for clues if these offerings are right for you by noticing what speaks specifically to your interests or issues.
What’s most important is deciding what’s best for you. Do you feel comfortable with the person sitting across you? Are you experiencing the changes you are reaching toward? If the answer to either of these questions is no, that’s okay as long as you can address it and find a resolution.
Remember, you know best. If a coach isn’t right for you or if they were right for you but aren’t anymore, it is okay (and encouraged!) to end your coaching relationship and start anew.
